A Look At Cleaning Marble Surfaces
There is such thing as a universal cleaner. It may work in the kitchen, bathroom and even other rooms of the house. It may work wonders on ceramic and plastic type surfaces; maybe even glass and metal, but no one cleaner can do everything. If you have stone surfaces in your home, you need to look at a special cleaner for that stone.
Cleaning marble is not such a difficult thing. If it is regularly cleaned and maintained it shouldn’t be a problem at all, but it needs to be done correctly to prevent damage being done to the fine stone surface.
Marble is a beautiful, smooth material that makes ideal surfaces in the bathroom and especially the kitchen. It looks luxurious and adds beauty to any room it is used in. It should stay looking great forever with a very little effort on your part.
Marble surfaces such as countertops are easily cleaned by wiping with a wet cloth. This should be done every time the surface is used and gets any food or dirt on it. Besides this, though, the marble should be cleaned with a cleaning agent regularly, too. This is where problems might arise.
Many people rely on natural products to clean their homes. Vinegar is a top choice as it is good at cleaning many different types of dirt and grime. However, vinegar should NEVER be used for cleaning marble! It damages the surface and can eat away the finish of the marble leaving you with a terrible stain.
The same goes for some other types of household cleaners that can damage a marble surface. The best bet is to purchase a cleaner that is specifically for stone surfaces. This will be strong enough to get the marble clean but gentle enough not to damage the finish or stone itself.
Marble is a rather soft and porous stone, which makes it subject to staining and pitting. If you get stains on your marble such as wine or blood, simply soak the area in a little hydrogen peroxide in water and wipe away.
It is a good idea to maintain your marble surfaces by polishing them occasionally. Find a good commercial or specialty marble finish or wax and rub into the surface according to product directions. This can make your marble more resilient and give it a longer life and a smoother look.
Cleaning marble is not very difficult. Especially if it is wiped clean regularly there is not much need for using special cleaners very often. When you do though, make sure it is a cleaner suitable for marble and nothing abrasive or acidic which will damage the stone. Regular cleaning will keep your marble looking shiny and new for a long, long time.
